Assistant Accountant

Join a supportive, collaborative team transforming the home buying and selling journey.

About Juno

Juno is an online law firm. We’re on a mission to make home buying and selling simpler, clearer and faster for everyone.

We’re rated among the top ten property law firms in the UK for customer satisfaction, and we’re growing more than 100% per year. We’re doing this with user-centric technology, data and service design, simplifying the legal process for our in-house lawyers and paralegals, and providing transparency and clarity for our clients and their estate agents.

Our finance team plays a crucial role in supporting our growth. Now we’re looking for a qualified or part-qualified accountant to join our team and take on day-to-day responsibility for payroll, accounts payable and other tasks as needed.

About the role

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in managing UK payroll for 100+ employees
  • Detail-oriented and thorough, while maintaining focus on outcomes over process
  • Able to switch context quickly during the working day as needed
  • Comfortable and experienced working with cloud-based financial systems
  • Eager to contribute to process improvement and automation

You’ll report to our Head of Finance and work closely with our Accounts Assistant to support the wider team, so we can serve more clients every month through a combination of headcount growth and tech-enabled productivity growth.

This is a remote-working role, and we’re a fully remote organization, with more than 100 employees in five countries.

We’re looking for either a full time person (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, excluding lunch breaks) or someone who can do a minimum of 32 hours per week across 4 or 5 days. Core working hours are 10am to 3pm.

Your responsibilities will initially include:

  • Leading on payroll preparation (within two months) for 100+ employees, including calculating statutory pay and entitlement, holiday pay, bonuses, commission and ad hoc changes as needed
  • Working with other team members to carry out the accounts payable function, including processing invoices, setting up payments and maintaining supplier records
  • Collaborating with our Client Banking team to ensure accurate revenue recording and accounts receivable reconciliation
  • Performing daily bank reconciliations alongside other members of the finance team
  • Processing and approving month-end and year-end journal entries

Expanding over time to include:

  • Supporting the production of monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and margin analysis
  • Preparing quarterly VAT reports for review by the Head of Finance
  • Generating internal financial reports and analysis as needed
  • Assisting external accountants with financial statements preparation for year-end filing and audit as needed

You’ll work alongside experienced finance professionals who understand both traditional accounting principles and modern financial technology. We believe in automating repetitive tasks and focusing our energy on value-adding analysis and insights.

Benefits

You’ll get a competitive salary (£40k+ depending on experience), fully funded and extremely comprehensive private healthcare, statutory employer pension contributions, and 33 days annual vacation allowance (including public holidays).

You’ll also be eligible to receive shares in our group holding company at nominal cost, to ensure you share in the value we’re creating together.

We’ll provide you with all the equipment you need, including laptop, monitor and a desk + chair (if you need it). You’ll just need a fast internet connection and a quiet place to work.

About you

  • Currently or recently worked in-house for a small or medium sized company or charity in the UK, i.e. not just experienced working in an accounting firm for external clients and/or a large corporate / public sector organisation
  • Experience with leading and implementing process improvement and automation
  • Qualified to AAT Level 3 or 4 or ACCA qualified or part-qualified (i.e. at least papers 1-9) or has 3+ years equivalent non-qualified experience in a similar role
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting software (Xero or Quickbooks)
  • Proficient in creating and managing complex spreadsheets and financial reports
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable in a remote-first environment

Prior experience in the legal sector is not required.
